Noah Webster Basic School Review

Noah Webster Basic School opened their charter school in Mesa for students in pre-kindergarten through 6th grades. The school focuses on core subjects while instilling leadership skills. Along with core subjects, the school provides dance, painting, chorus, orchestra, computer arts, band, basketball, field hockey, cheerleading, baseball, physical education classes, football, softball, soccer, track, volleyball, yearbook, newspaper, and science & technology for all students that wish to participate.

The majority of parents had negative comments regarding the school with the main one being parent involvement is discouraged. The school is disorganized with 35 students per class and teachers are often not in control of their students. One parent even stated that when students are given the AIMS tests, the ones given are below their grade level to ensure the school receives a good rating. Most parents said the extra curricular activities are great and what brought them to the school, but the curriculum is below their grade level and is not challenging at all. Bullying and other issues have been reported due to not enough qualified teachers and large student population. Most parents stated they are taking their children out of the school and do not recommend the school to other parents. Only a couple of parents stated their children were doing well in school and enjoy going to school.

A look at the AIMS exams showed the percentage of third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders that passed the exams were above state average in reading, writing, and math. It would be in your best interest to visit the school and see the atmosphere. Ask to see the curriculum and even the AIMS exams your child will be taking before enrolling your child. The comments of parents may not be correct, however, you want your child to receive a quality education in a safe environment so it would be best to learn as much as you can.
