North Pointe Preparatory opened their charter school in 2003 with an average enrollment of 720 students in 7th through 12th grades that works with parents to provide academic excellence to ensure that all students can succeed. Along with core subjects the school provides an array of extra curricular activities, sports, and student clubs which include drama, photography, film production, dance, painting, chorus, computer arts, band, volleyball, softball, football, physical education classes, cross country, baseball, cheerleading, basketball, yearbook, science & technology, debate, multimedia, and student council.
Some parents provided negative reviews regarding the school, mainly due to one activity that the students enjoy. Parents are not happy with administration but believe the teachers are caring and nurturing. The one activity that occurs after students have studied hard and taken the AIMS series of test that is raising eyebrows is the Rock Lobster. Students were bathing suits with t-shirts over them and have a wet t-shirt contest. Students expressed the event is fun and allows them to throw water on one another and relief all the stress from studying for exams.
Percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests in seventh, eighth, and tenth grade were above state average in all subjects. Hearing from parents and teachers the school does not seem to be professional, however, the school is providing a quality education if you look at the percentage of students that are above state averages in all subjects. Before enrolling your child, you should talk with other parents and staff to see if the school is a good fit for you and your child.
