Nosotros Academy is a charter school that opened in 2002 for students in grades 6th through 12th grades as an alternative to public schools. The school has on average 150 students enrolled per year. The school along with core subjects offers a school to work program along with other activities such as painting, newspaper, student council, and yearbook. The school works with students that have dropped out of school or are considering dropping out of school or are just behind in their credits, which discourages them from attending school.
Students truly enjoy the environment at the school as well as the teachers that help each student on a personal level to ensure they attain the credits they need to graduate. Most students attending the school are behind in credits for a variety of reasons, but find that they can even achieve credits early in order to graduate on time or early. The teachers are very supportive and the offers students the chance to learn without any distractions as they often have in public school. All students are treated equal and there is no problem with bullying or other problems.
Students at Nosotros Academy participated in the AIMS series of tests. The percentage of students that passed the exams in 7th, 8th, and 10th grades were below average in reading, writing, and math.
You must remember the percentage of students that passed the exam should not deter you from enrolling your child if they are considering dropping out of school. The school is wonderful for students that truly want to graduate, but of course, they must work to attain their goals.
