Oasis Charter Public School opened in 2002 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school offers a standards based curriculum with small multi-age classrooms. The school provides a variety of teaching methods to ensure the success of each students including projects and special events.
Oasis Charter Public School has a variety of after school programs and field trips that enhance the learning experience. The school has a diverse student body being 52% Hispanic or Latino, 21% White, 20% unspecified, 5% Filipino, 2% African American, and 1% American Indian.
The major opinion from parents with students attending the school, the teachers and staff are doing a tremendous job of providing a safe caring learning environment, which allows students to be creative and learn about life. A few parents stated that the academics are not up to par and that after moving away from the school district realized just how far her child was behind the rest of their classmates. Students on the other hand, love the school, teachers, and enjoy all the events. Parents expressed that teachers are motivators and caring which is a huge plus to most.
The Academic Performance Index increased 3 points from the previous year to 700. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the increase. Most parents are happy with this score and do see improvements every year. All teachers and parents are working together to reach the statewide goal.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams were mainly below state averages except for 5th grade with 64% passing the science exam with the state average at 60% and 6th grade English with 60% passing the exam and the state at 59%. Parents were not very pleased with these figures as some were very low such as 2nd grade English with only 25% of students passing the exam and the state average at 58%.
When it comes to personality and friendliness, the school is wonderful. It would be a good idea if you are considering the school to learn more about the curriculum and the various teaching methods before enrolling your child.
