Orchard View Charter School opened in 2000 as an independent study charter school offering on-campus Kindergarten through twelfth grade enrichment classes such as art, writing, science lab, garden club, history, drama, and Spanish. High school on-campus classes include biology, chemistry, algebra, geometry, art, environmental, science, world cultures, English, and Spanish.

Parents love the fact that teachers work with parents to create a curriculum that meets the needs of their child instead of providing the same curriculum for each child. Students really love the way they can do their schoolwork at their own pace and really like the teachers. The on site classes are very exciting as some students reported.

The resources for home school families are amazing along with the great optional classes the school offers with multi-age classrooms, as explained by parents. The majority of parents expressed that the school is terrific at providing all the tools needed for students to become life long learners and enjoy attending school.

The Academic Performance Index increased 9 points from the previous year to 834. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the increase.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. Several of the results were not available, but the ones that were available showed students above average. Examples include 100% of 7th graders passed the English exam with the state average at 62% and 78% of 8th graders passed the English exam with the average at 59%.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. Students at the school did very well with the exit exam with 95% passing the English exam with the state average at 95% and 73% in math with the state at 84%.

Overall, the school is providing students with an exceptional education. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to take a tour of the school.
