Our Community Charter opened in 2000 in Chatsworth to serve students in kindergarten through 6th grades with a core curriculum that stresses democratic citizenship and social studies. Parents love the way the school provides project based learning which engages their children to want to learn. The student body is diverse with 48% Hispanic, 34% White, 7% African American, 5% Asian, 3% Filipino, 2% American Indian, and 1% unspecified.
Along with core subjects, the school offers music, physical education, gardening, student senate, computer lab, flag football, and soccer.

Some students expressed just how great teachers are and treat them very nice. The students have fun learning with the various methods teachers are using along with showing them respect and helping them at every corner. Several parents are very happy with the hands on learning environment and that teachers do not pile on the homework. The majority of parents expressed that staff and teachers are caring and provide a responsive classroom approach.
The Academic Performance Index increased 19 points from the previous year to 871. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are thrilled with this score. They stated that their children are doing so much better than the state goal and they are very proud of the teachers and students.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

Our Community Charter School is providing students with a safe and nurturing environment that is preparing them for the remainder of their school years and beyond. It would still be a good idea to take a tour of the school before enrolling your child to ensure the environment is on in which they will excel.
