Pacific Community Charter School opened in 1999 as a charter school to provide students in Kindergarten through 12th grades with an option over traditional school settings. The school prepares students for college as well as to join the workforce with an academic program that utilizes multi-age classrooms and a rigorous, challenging curriculum.
Along with core subjects, the school offers extracurricular activities in to groups. One is for the Kindergarten through 8th grade students and the other is for the high school students. The school offer music, art, literature, field trips, and real world experiences for the younger students while the high school students get to focus on community service as well college prep courses along with various activities. The students love that the school offers a variety of activities.
The opinion of the school is very high with parents loving the school and proud of the achievements of their children. The school is like a large family and the staff is quite personable. The student’s love the school and the variety of activities that they get to participate in while having teachers that are caring.
The Academic Performance Index increased by 30 points from the previous year to a score of 772. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the increase but are looking to raise that score and do better next year.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams did not show test results for all of the grade levels at this time. For the 4th grade students they fell below the state averages in both of the subjects that were tested.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The results of the exams were not available at the time of this writing.
Overall, the school is providing students with an exceptional education. It would be in your best interest to ask questions regarding the exit exams to learn how well students are doing with goals to graduation.
