Paramount Bard Academy opened in 2009 to serve students in 6th through 10th grades. The school prepares students for college as well as high school with a rigorous curriculum that focuses on college prep. The goal is for students to obtain a high school diploma as well as a 2 year college degree.
Along with core subjects, the school offers extracurricular activities that focus on the arts as well as music. This also includes sports like cross-country and volleyball. The variety of courses makes parents and the students happy however they would like more choices when it comes to these types of activities.
Parents are pleased with the curriculum at Paramount, as it is very challenging and a great start to college prep. The teachers were also highly regarded as very thoughtful, friendly and dedicated to their job. The students like their school and the teachers, but want more extracurricular activities and sports to choose to join.
The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 3 points from the previous year to a score of 657. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the increase of the number, but want better test results and scores. The teachers and staff are working daily to raise their score.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams was below the state averages across the 6th through 10th grade exams. Some results barely made it past 20%.
California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The students at Paramount Bard Academy fell below the state averages here as well showing the areas where improvements need to be made.
The school is providing students with a great opportunity to study college prep. It would still be a good idea to ensure the school is the right fit for your family before enrolling your child by taking a tour and speaking with the teachers since exam scores were below state averages.
