Quail Lake Environmental Charter opened in 2000 to provide the community with an alternative to traditional schools with a focus on integrated learning with artificial, natural, and cultural environments. The school serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grades. The school utilizes architecture and design within its curriculum.

Along with core subjects, the school offers a variety of sports for its students to enjoy which includes softball, track, swim & dive and volleyball. This makes parents and students happy however; they would like more choices when it comes to activities like student council.

Parents are so thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers that they scored the school very highly on the internet with 10 out of 10. The teachers are very caring and willing to help every step of the way. The students love that the learning is hands-on and individualized to different learning styles.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 19 points from the previous year to a score of 955. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very pleased with the number and the increase. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above the state averages across the 2nd through 8th grade exams. Some results showed a 100% passing rate for the students.
