River Oaks Academy Charter opened in 2010 to provide families the opportunity to unite in a home school environment that allows independent study. The school serves students in kindergarten through12th grades. The learning environment is multi-age, non-competitive with individualized direction and self paced. The school offers all the resources families need to provide their children with a quality education that will prepare them for life and higher education. The school offers free tutoring and college ready high school transcripts.

The school offers a variety of classes that provide unique opportunities for all students including story hour, computer classes including HTML programming and Photoshop, family yoga, field trips, science labs, and college prep. Parents really love the classes and that families are included in many of the events and opportunities. Parents and students alike stated that the tutoring is awesome and truly helps.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline of 1 point from the previous year to a score of 798. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are working with teachers and students to improve on the score.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed with most below state averages such as 58% of 6th graders passing the English exam with the state average at 59% and in math only 37% passing with the average at 55%. Parents are working with teachers to ensure their children are working at raising the percentages.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the exams was not available at the time of this writing.
