Sacramento Academy and Vocational Academy (SAVA) Review

Sacramento Academy and Vocational Academy (SAVA) opened in 2007 to offer families the opportunity to provide an education to students in their home. The school serves students in 7th through 12th grades. The curriculum is standards based with innovative teaching methods and a high standard of quality.

The school is focused on each individual student and his or her family. They know that education not only includes the school, but home and community as well. The teachers work hard at adapting to each student’s individual learning style.

Parents are very pleased with the teaching formats offered at the school. For the majority of the parents they have a child that has not done so well in a traditional school setting. This is where the dedicated staff and teachers at Sacramento Academy and Vocational Academy (SAVA) excel. They strive for excellence by allowing the students to move at their own pace and succeed. Most parents expressed that the support from teachers is excellent. Students like attending school at home, but would like the opportunity to play in sports or join clubs with other students that are home schooled.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease of 30 points from the previous year to a score of 542. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are concerned about the score and are working with the school as well as their children to raise that number.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was below average across the board on the 7th through 11th grade exams. The numbers remained in the 20% area or below prompting the school to take action. Parents are aware of the low numbers and have showed the school their concerns.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English exam was 54% in English with the average at 83% and in math 55% passed with the average at 84%.

With scores and percentages as seen above, you have every right to voice your concern for your family to the school. The staff at Sacramento Academy and Vocational Academy (SAVA) is dedicated to raising those scores.
