San Diego Cooperative Charter School Review

San Diego Cooperative Charter School opened in 2000 to offer families the opportunity to offer their children with a school that welcomes all students. The school’s academic program uses progressive practices with developmentally based learning. The school serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grades.

The school schedule is based upon a rigorous curriculum that includes a variety of extracurricular activities. Those include art classes, technology courses, physical education classes, and even extended day programs. Students stated that the school needs more activities including sports and clubs. Many would love to see student council added to the activities.

Parents are very pleased with the teaching formats offered and the teachers that work hard each day to ensure that every student succeeds. The school’s focus is on developmental milestones which parents absolutely love. The test scores have been a concern for some parents, but the school is working hard to improve the results. Students stated they really like their teachers and that they feel safe at school without any bullies.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease of 19 points from the previous year to a score of 776. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are concerned about the decrease and are hoping that the school improves enough to show a score that compares with the state average.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams showed results that were above and below the state average. This occurred across the board in the 2nd through 8th grade level exams. Parents stated that this a sign that the school knows where the improvements need to be made.

With teachers that really care and a curriculum that challenges even the youngest student San Diego Cooperative Charter School may just be the right one for your family. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to talk with parents and teachers to ensure the school is a good fit for your family.
