Santa Rosa Academy opened as a charter school in 2005 to offer families in the community with options besides traditional schools. The school serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grades. The school offers a variety of programs including high-performing, accelerated credit learning, honors track, virtual school, and independent study. The school also provides college prep programs.
Along with core subjects, Santa Rosa Academy provides several sports students can join including baseball, basketball, football, golf, cross-country, soccer, and cheerleading. The only other extra curricular activities available are photography and drama. Students are not very happy with the choices for activities for those that are not interested in sports. Many students stated they would like to see students clubs offered such as chess club, newspaper, and yearbook.
Parents love the fact that uniforms are mandatory which they believe puts all students on an equal level. Students on the other hand, are not happy wearing uniforms and would like more individuality. The majority of parents are pleased with the various programs available, however, a few parents that tried the White Track home school program stated that the school does not provide as much as other home school programs. Some parents expressed that the school is only average on what they offer for academics.
The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 44 points from the previous year to a score of 849. The statewide goal is 800. Parents could not be more pleased with the score.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above average across the board in all grade levels and all subjects. Examples include 50% of 8th graders passed the Algebra I exam with the state at 49% and in English 67% passed with the state at 59%.
The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English exam was 92% in English with the average at 83% and in math 96% passed with the average at 84%.
The percentage of students passing the state exams shows the school is providing a quality education. However, to ensure the learning environment is one that will help your child excel, you should visit the school.
