Shonto Preparatory Technology High School is a charter school that has a predominate American Indian student body. The school opened to serve the community with an alternative to traditional schools. The school provides a high quality education as well as fostering Dine language and culture. On average, the school has 160 students in grades 9th through 12th grades yearly. The school works with the whole child and ensures that their culture is preserved in their teaching. The school also strives to ensure that each student becomes life long learners. The Residential Services is an extended educational program that provides structure and guidance to ensure that all students have the emotional, academic, and individualized care they need at all times. A few of activities offered by this program include recreational and sports, counseling, study hall, reading, leisure time, guidance in banking, guidance in canteen, dance, music, and cultural appreciation.

The school promotes parent involvement and encourages parents to visit the classroom as well as help with events and activities.

Parents are pleased that the school is holding onto traditional values and instilling cultural appreciation in their children while ensuring they reach their goals of graduation. One student expressed concern that there are no girls attending the school and that the student body is very small.

The percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of exams were below state averages across the board in all core subjects. It would be in the best interest of your child to learn more about the school, the curriculum, and the student body before enrolling your child. Talk with teachers and staff to learn if girls are attending before you make your final decision especially if you are enrolling your daughter. She may not feel comfortable if she is the only girl in the school.
