Part of the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, Star of the North Secondary School is a free public school that provides an excellent opportunity for children to achieve intellectual growth. Serving grades 7-12, it also works with those who may find it difficult to earn a high school diploma as well as special needs students, and provides a supportive environment. The school is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools.
Operating in two campuses, Star of the North Secondary School is formed by the merger of the Career Education Center and North Pole Academy; both highly successful programs. Each campus enrolls 100 students each, making it a total of 200 students each year. The North Pole Campus is still fondly called as “The Academy,” and serves grades 7-12, while the CEC campus is for students from 11-12.
Enrollment into kindergarten is for children who will be five years on or before September each year. Through the North Pole Campus, the school attracts students who thrive in a small school setting; those who have been through Special Education or have come from a village or have been home-schooled or those who need more time to mature and bloom. The Career Education Center works toward a high school diploma.
This is the perfect setting for teens who need self-paced instruction, small groups working together, one-on-one tutorials and flexibility. High achievement is proof of the evolved educational opportunity. Family and community support is given importance. Children are exposed to art, music, band, drama and several other activities.
