Trivium Preparatory Academy opened in 2011 in Goodyear as a charter school for students in 6th and 7th grades. The school organizes parents and guardians to work as volunteers in parent committees to help make the life of students better while providing an exceptional education.
Even though the core subjects are taught, students choose the subjects they are of interest to them. The school curriculum is based on the Socratic Model. The Great Books is the baseline for the curriculum, which was created by Dr. Mortimer Adler. The ideas include truth, beauty, goodness, liberty, justice, and equality. There is no true set curriculum but the school stresses instilling the values of freedom, free elections, and free speech in a free society.
The Socratic model is one in which an assignment is started by the teachers providing the material. The teacher will then ask questions and the lesson will move forward according to the questions and answers that arise. Along with the core subjects, students can participate in volleyball, debate, yearbook, science & technology baseball, basketball, cross-country, chorus, theater, dance, orchestra, football, softball, soccer, and track.
Parents are very pleased that the school is in their area and provides students with all kinds of options. Parents are very happy with the way their children are learning and become socially active as well. Students enjoy the environment and caring teachers.
The school has not published any test scores including those for the AIMS exams. It would be in your best interest to talk with other parents that have students enrolled before enrolling your child.
