The approach to education followed by Twindly Bridge Charter School is to blend the independent home-school study with the traditional public school structure. Students may choose to attend supplementary classes held in the labs and classrooms at school. The school offers K-12 grades and parents choose and manage most of the curriculum, and the study material can be purchased from the student allotment.
Located in Wasilla, Alaska, Twindly Bridge Charter School (TBCS) is one of the charter schools in the Matanuska-susitna Borough School District, and its doors opened in 2005. A low test participation and power struggle made the first year a little bumpy, but it soon got on the right course and established itself as a school worth mentioning. It now boasts of an enrollment of about 285.
Twindly Bridge offers several academic, fine arts, music, physical education and technology based sessions at school and others at vendor locations throughout the Valley. The school offers workshops for parents and students, as well as on-site activities for students. The workshops are conducted by experienced and qualified teachers and national and international mentors. Students who score below state standards can get help through an Intervention Plan.
Mathematics, Environmental Science, Psychology, Introduction to Robotics, Video Production, Digital Piano, Songwriting and Music recording Engineering, dance, Gymnastics, and Art are just some of what the children are exposed to. Home schooling is as exciting as attending a school for children at Twindly Bridge, as several activities are offered to them, such as field trips, clubs and special events.
