Watts Learning Center Charter Middle School opened in 2009 to provide students in 6th and 7th grades with an alternative to traditional school. The school works with students on a personal level to ensure each student become productive members of society. The school is predominantly African American.
The school at this time does not offer sports or other activities.
Parents are happy with the curriculum but are not pleased that the school does not offer any type of physical fitness or sports. All efforts are focused academics, which are good, but students also need outdoor activities. Students are very happy attending school and like their teachers. The majority of students expressed they would like the opportunity to participate in sports.
The Academic Performance Index increased 17 points to 870. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very happy with the score along with the API statewide rank of 7 out of 10.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams was not available at the time of this writing.
Since the exam scores were not available, it would be in your best interest to talk with administration regarding the results to ensure the school is a good fit for your child before enrolling.
