Founded in 1949, Grand Canyon University is a regionally accredited private Christian university. It is based in Phoenix and is located just four hours from the Grand Canyon. The school was created by a group of Arizona Southern Baptists who had a dream of creating a faith-based institution that would give Baptists the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the local region. The university has expanded tremendously and today has an enrolment of more than 15,000 students. Classes are offered through online study as well as through several other divisions; including College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, College of Nursing, the Ken Blanchard College of Business, and the College of Entrepreneurship.
The school is ranked as one of the top online education programs by Online Education Database and as one of the top five online colleges for entrepreneurs by Fortune. The U.S. News & World Report also ranked the school as a small, Christian school and one of the best educational buys. The aim of the school is to ensure they maintain religious traditions and academic teachings while growing to offer many more online degree programs.
Students enrolling with the online programs at Grand Canyon University will be assigned to a community of fellow learners with whom the students can discuss classroom materials and projects. Students will use the most up-to-date online technologies to work with highly qualified instructors, who are specifically trained to teach in the online environment. Degree programs are available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in four programs of study including: Education, Nursing, Business and the Liberal Arts.
Students studying online are provided with a seamless experience. All courses at Grand Canyon use Angel technology, which means that the format in each of the classes remains consistent. At the beginning of the course, all online students are given a detailed tutorial to get familiarized with the online structure of learning. The student’s account will contain everything right from the course syllabus, discussion boards, staff information as well as a digital drop box where all the assignments will have to be turned in. Students can interact with other students and professors. Classes are structured in such a way that students take only one class at a time as the school believes that concentration on one subject helps take maximum advantage of the lessons. Exams will be conducted electronically at periodic intervals to assess the student’s performance. Professors will also leave notes on their progress or any other comments.
This university expects students to invest at least 10-12 hours per week but at their convenience. This ensures students do not take it easy and work hard towards achieving their goals and fulfilling their aspirations.
