This is Judas’ Ear (Auricularia auricula-judae), an edible fungus that grows on deciduous trees throughout temperate and sub-tropical regions around the world. It can grow in very large colonies on fallen logs, where it feeds on dead wood, or parasitise living trees and cause white rot.
